Why Having Money Only Does Not Equal Success

A person once said, “While money doesn’t buy happiness, it sure does make me giggle a lot.” But this was said by someone who had not only made a lot of money but also had enough free time to spend that money. It is a hard truth that you can not create joy only with money; the true happiness is having the ability and time to spend that money and only then you can derive happiness and joy from money. The real thought behind the initiative for becoming entrepreneurs is not the work but the ability to enjoy freedom.

What is Success?

So what success boils down to? It is mainly freedom. Success means that you have the freedom to easily take off a day from work routine and enjoy the day with your kids on a field trip. Success also means you will have all the time in the world to enjoy a free and leisurely Sunday morning breakfast with your partner. Success also means if you would want to go to Europe on a trip, you can do that easily. Surely money will be a factor in you affording these things and opportunities but money is only a medium for getting these things. It is a whole different thing to actually enjoy these because while everyone can buy these with money, not everyone will be having enough free time to enjoy these trips and things. Money is infinite while time is a finite thing.

The Real Value of Time

In his book called The 4-Hour Work Week, Timothy Ferriss writes,

“To enjoy life, you don’t need fancy nonsense, but you do need to control your time and realize that most things just aren’t as serious as you make them out to be.”

This is the exact reason that if you prioritize your life based on money, you will see things will backfire. Rather base your life on prioritizing things by thinking of how much and what kind of time they will cost. What doing something will take away from you that you would rather have preferred doing? There are, of course, certain things that we do under duress. However, such things can be outsourced most of the times to gain time for placing things that you love to do on your to-do list. And most of the things can wait.

Almost all successful people realize the importance and limits of time early on and they always try to make the best use of the time they have at their disposal. And this makes these successful people so productive. Successful people spend their lives strictly according to their carefully crafted calendars and schedules. It might sound a little unromantic but its a truth that you can make your life better by a number of times by schedules your time for work and fun.

Rather start working on your calender right now and create a schedule your life including the time you spend with your family. After doing that fit in your work schedule around the things and time you have prioritized for your family and yourself. The entire point in becoming an entrepreneur is to have and enjoy your freedom but try to be very clear about knowing what freedom itself is. It is not money but time only. Get the worth of your time.
